Boehms Candies & Chocolates was founded by Julius Boehm, an Austrian chef and candymaker. The chocolate factory and a retail shop are housed in the Edelweiss Chalet, recognized by the University of Washington School of Architecture as an authentic Alpine Chalet. Make sure you schedule time to peruse the assortment of truffles, toffees, caramels, cordials, fudge, chocolate bars, and more.
In addition to being a chocolatiere, Julius was an avid outdoorsman. He summited Mt. Rainier three times, the last at the age of 80, and was active in skiing and swimming, both as a participant and a teacher. He built the High Alpine Chapel, a replica of a twelfth century Swiss chapel, as a shrine to mountaineers. The chapel can be reserved for weddings and viewed on guided tours.
