We asked winemaker, Josh Stottlemyer, what makes the Stottle wines so special?
“Two things: source and craft. We start by sourcing old vines in the best locations and then partner closely with our viticulture team to optimize grapes for that year’s growing conditions. After harvesting, it’s an obsession to detail throughout the winemaking processes. Our winemaking team holds ourselves to the highest standard. We meticulously document every step of our winemaking process and ensure every action, every process, is optimized toward guiding the wine towards its highest expression.”
What really stands out in your line-up right now?
“Tough question. We believe in extended barrel and bottle aging before we release our wines. This way you are getting a nicely drinkable bottle the day you take it home. We are getting down to the last of the phenomenal 2014 vintage reds. You can still get our 2014 Hombre and our 2014 GSM. The Hombre is our Spanish style blend emulating the best wines of the Rioja region. It’s Tempranillo based blend with Malbec to give it some body and heft. If you are looking for something a bit different, this wine tastes fantastic right now. Our GSM is our classic Rhone style blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre. This wine is super smooth, drinkable on its own or wonderful with many dishes from a hearty stew, to a grilled steak, or cheese board. If you are more of a white wine drinker or looking for something that pairs really well with rich seafood like scallops, lobster, or sea bass, or drinks really nice on its own, then try our 2017 Viognier. But you can’t go wrong with anything in our line-up right now. Even our 2015 reds, which was a super hot year, have bucked the norm for the vintage with full delicious flavors and well-rounded tannins. They are an absolute delight.”
The Covid 19 lock-down has got to be a challenge. How is that affecting things at the winery?
“We are getting through as best we can just like everyone. Wineries cannot currently offering tastings in Washington. However, as an essential business, we can still do winemaking, in-person bottle sales, curbside, and delivery. This is a challenging time for everyone, and our goal is just to keep all of our great team members employed and support our vendors; it’s not about making money right now. To that end, we are offering some best discounts ever to make our wines as accessible as possible and as easy to get as possible.”
